Welcome to Lancaster University Christian Union!

Why bother with CU?

houseparty Christian Unions, like those at Lancaster University, exist because of what Jesus has done: he died on the cross to take the punishment that we deserve for our rebellion against God; and in rising to new life, he has given us a hope of a restored relationship and eternal life with him. God has saved us, not because of anything that we have done, but because of his amazing love for us.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
(Ephesians 2:8-10)

As Christians who are committed to the gospel, we seek to tell those around us the great news about Jesus. God has placed us in Lancaster for three or more years, giving us great opportunities to witness. While we are at university, we want to share the good news with our friends, and those in our colleges, houses, departments and sports teams.

At university we have unparalleled opportunities for sharing this good news, as we live among friends at a time of life when they are searching for answers. As a student group we are uniquely able to come alongside students and use university resources. As Christians together, it is normal to meet together to pray and encourage and support each other as we seek to share our faith with others. We can combine resources in order to put on events or meetings, and use each other's gifts.

Lancaster CU is not a church. We all benefit from belonging to one of the local churches where we can serve and be supported. We also encourage and support each other to be members of other societies where we can serve and witness for Christ simultaneously.

As a CU, we put on lots of different regular events, a few of which are detailed below:

Central Meeting
Every Tuesday at 7.30pm in the Faraday Lecture Theatre we meet together as a CU. It's a great opportunity to meet, and pray and have fellowship with other Christians, as well as get taught from God's Word and hear about what he's doing on our campus.

Small Groups
On Thursday nights there is the option to go to a small group Bible study in your college, or the one you stayed in when you lived in college. Every four weeks, small groups hold their own outreach events, known as 'Go' events. For more details, click here.

Globe Café
Globe Café is a place for international students to come and make friends with other international students and students from this country. For more information, click here.

Lunchbars
Lunchbars run every week on Thursdays at 1pm, normally in Furness SCR. A lunch bar is a talk [over free food] on topics which are relevant to students. We invite speakers from around the country to talk on the Christian perspective on one of these topics. For info on upcoming lunchbars, click here.

Football team
The CU has a football team which practices every Friday evening at 8.30pm on the Astroturf. This is an informal kick around open to all abilities, and to both Christians and non-Christians. The football team plays regularly and has regular friendlies against other teams on campus. Why not come and join us?! It's a great way to reach out to non-Christian friends, to be a witness and to have fun in the process! Email Mark, (football@lancscu.org.uk) to find out more.

Bitesize
Bitesize is an informal five week course designed for non-Christians or Christians who'd like to go over the basics of the Christian message. We look at Jesus' life and claims from Mark's Gospel. For more details, please contact Pete, (evangelism@lancscu.org.uk).
